National Train Day

National Train Day marks 141 years of connecting travelers coast to coast and commemorating the day the first transcontinental railroad was created. On May 10, 1869, in Promontory Summit, Utah, the "golden spike" was driven into the final tie that joined the 1,776 miles of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways transforming America by creating the nation's first transcontinental railroad.

We celebrate this achievement along with many other national holidays and events at Shenandoah Caverns. Join us on National Train Day, May 8th, 2010 and discover how important train service was to delivering guests to Shenandoah Caverns in 1922! Three model trains are in motion and on display at The Yellow Barn. We are also constructing a complex model train system around a huge tree at American Celebration on Parade.
