A NEW Caboose
A Rail Car was transported to The Yellow Barn at Shenandoah Caverns June 27th, 2012.
It was likely manufactured around 1960, based on similar cars that are close in number.
For Train Enthusiasts, some facts: The number on the car, 557581, looks to be original N&W number and is easily verifiable by checking the ACI label. It’s likely that this car is an ex. NKP rail car 481 (Nickel Plate Railroad car, No. 481) Nickel Plate Rail was merged into Norfolk & Western in 1964.
Shenandoah Caverns Owner, Earl Hargrove is excited to restore the rail car for use at The Yellow Barn. It will be renovated and used for small parties, children's birthday events and add to the collection of trains on the property, including model trains and the train float on display at American Celerbation on Parade.
